Fade Fernando’s Picks From God 7.24.2020
MLB Opening Day is upon us which signifies that real sports have returned to action. After a 4 month hiatus, I feel properly prepared once again to make my weekly donation to my bookie’s college fund for his kids. There’s a solid slate of games scheduled for today so without further ado here are my infamous Picks from God.
Brewers v. Cubs (-130) and OVER 8.5 (-110)
The Cubs open up the season in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field where SP Kyle Hendricks has enjoyed success. Last season, Hendricks was 6-2 with a 2.04 ERA at home. On the contrary, Hendrick’s counterpart Brandon Woodruff has struggled against the Cubs in his career. Last season, the Brewers were also 2-6 at Wrigley. Look for Woodruff to struggle early which should lead to the Cubs’ offense feasting against a below-average Brewers bullpen.
OVER 8.5 (-110) Rockies v. Rangers
The Rangers begin their tenure at Globe Life Field against a Rockies squad that features stars such as Nolen Arenado and Trevor Story. Will Globe Life Field be as hitter-friendly as the old park? Honestly, who knows. However, I am fairly confident we will see a large dip in production from SP Lance Lynn who had an uncanny 2019 campaign. The Rangers don’t carry quite the firepower the Rockies do but they should still manage to string together a few runs against German Marquez who was 12-5 with a 4.76 ERA in 2019.
