Fade Fernando’s Picks from God 8.28.2020
Howdy and welcome back to another edition of Fade Fernando’s Picks from God. Last week we went back to our losing ways as we posted a 1-3 record; bringing our overall record to 6-12. Akin to Charlie Brown and that stupid football, we are a glutton for punishment and are back for more. Without further ado, here are the Picks from God.
Minnesota Twins -1.5 at Detroit Tigers (Game 1)
Randy Dobnak takes the hill for the Twins and will face off against Tarik Skubal. Dobnak has been terrific; Skubal not so much. Now, this game will only be 7 innings as it is the first game of a doubleheader. However, I am still fairly confident the Twins get out to a big lead in this one early and manage to hang on behind Dobnak the Uber driver’s brilliance.
New York Mets at New York Yankees Over 7.5
Another 7 inning game due to a doubleheader, but do not fear, there will be lots of runs in this game. The Yankees are the losers of 5 straight and could be without Aaron Judge, but they should come out bashing against Michael Wacha. Look out for a Luke Voit dinger as he’s been swinging a hot stick. The Mets’ lineup will face off against Jordan Montgomery who has been average this season. Take the over.
San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies Under 11.5
Both Zach Davies for the Padres and Kyle Freeland for the Rockies have been outstanding this year. Additionally, the Rockies have struggled historically against Davies and the same can be said of the Padres against Freeland. Yes, the game is in the hitter friendly confines of Coors field but feel confident taking the under in what should amount to a pitcher’s duel.
Oakland A’s (+105) at Houston Astros
The line opened up at A’s +120 but the public has pushed that number down significantly. While I normally like to fade my fellow commoners, I like their thinking in this matchup. The Athletics’ Chris Bassit has been superb thus far this season. He is historically fairly good agains the Astros as well. Meanwhile, Astros’ Lance McCullers has struggled this season. The A’s are playing with a chip on their shoulder and I think they take down their rival on the road Friday night.
